According to the theory of concurrent pathogens in Shi’s traumatology theoretical system, the pain commonly seen in orthopedics and traumatology is prolonged and difficult to heal as a result of the concurrent “phlegm-dampness” pathogens flowing into the vessels and collaterals. Therefore, the treatment method of resolving phlegm-dampness and dredging collaterals is proposed and Niubangzi Decoction is applied to the treatment with good effects. Professor Shi Yinyu, the fourth-generation successor of Shi’s traumatology, believes that the contemporary concurrent pathogens have gradually changed from “phlegm-dampness” to internal heat due to yin deficiency or damp-heat, and has developed the heat pathogen theory based on the theory of concurrent pathogens, proposing that the methods of clearing heat, removing toxicity and cooling blood should be added to the treatment principles accordingly. One proven case is provided.
