This article introduced professor Chen Xiangjun’s experience in the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus and its complications. It was concluded that the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus was based on deficiency of liver and kidney yin and marked by hyperactivity of evil heat. After a long illness， yang qi was exhausted and both yin and yang were weakened， which caused the changes in the disease. In the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus and its complications， professor Chen made good use of traditional Chinese medicines such as Astragali Radix， Rehmanniae Radix， Polygonati Rhizoma， etc.. The treatment was based on the therapy of strengthening body resistance， then balancing yin and yang and giving consideration to the varying syndromes. A proven case was presented.
