The theory that "lung and large gut are mutually connected as the inside and the outside" in traditional Chinese medicine and the concept of lung-gut axis in contemporary research depicted the interactions between the lung and the gut at macro and micro levels, respectively. Based on the interaction between the lung and the gut, the role of dietary fiber in lung infection was gradually being recognized. Fermentable dietary fiber was the main substrate involved in the interactive immune mechanism of the lung and the gut, which also was a main choice for the diet management of patients with lung infection, and balance and individualization were the basic principles of dietary fiber intake.
