This paper discusses the clinical thinking in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) from three aspects: the concept of inverse excitation method, its role in the treatment of COPD and its clinical application in COPD. In the treatment of COPD, the inverse excitation method is displayed in seven aspects, that is, alternately using astringe and dispersion herbs, simultaneously using moistening and dryness herbs, simultaneously applying cold and heat herbs as well as simultaneously using nourishing and purgation herbs, dynamic and static herbs, ascent and descent herbs, and strength and weakness herbs. The clinical application value of inverse excitation method in the treatment of COPD is also evaluated.
