Objective:To observe the effects of modified Wuhu Zhuifeng powder on serum levels of interleukin (IL)-1β, Cystatin (Cys)-C and homocystein (Hcy) and motor sysmptoms in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Methods108 patients with PD were randomly assigned into treatment group and control group, 54 patients in each group. Patients in both groups were given levodopa and benserazide hydrochloride tablets, and the treatment group was given modified Wuhu Zhuifeng powder in addition. The course of treatment was 3 months. Medication safety was observed. Changes in the serum levels of IL-1β, Cys-C and Hcy, and in scores on the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and Parkinson’s Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39) were compared.  Results:①104 patients completed the trial, including 53 and 51 patients in the treatment group and the control group respectively. ②After treatment, the UPDRSⅡ, UPDRSⅢ, UPDRSⅣ and PDQ-39 scores decreased significantly in both groups compared to those before treatment (P<0.05). The scores were significantly lower in the treatment group than in the control group after treatment (P<0.05). ③After treatment, the levels of IL-1β, Cys-C and Hcy decreased in both groups compared to those before treatment (P<0.05). The levels were significantly lower in the treatment group than in the control group after treatment (P<0.05). ④There were no significant differences in the incidence of adverse drug reactions between the groups (P>0.05).  Conclusion:In treating PD, modified Wuhu Zhuifeng powder can effectively lower the serum levels of IL-1β, Cys-C and Hcy, significantly relieve the motor symptoms, reduce the adverse reactions of western medicine and improve the quality of life of the patients.
