This paper explores and summarizes the characteristics and patterns of ying-wei production and physiological function as well as pathogenesis of ying-wei disharmony in Lingshu Jing. Ying qi and wei qi come from the essence of digested food. Wei qi has the functions of nourishing and enriching, warming the body, opening and closing the striae and interstices, and resisting pathogenic factors; ying qi has the functions of generating blood, assisting blood circulation and nourishing the body. Nine conditions of ying-wei deficiency or circulation abnormality, such as ying qi deficiency and wei qi subjugation, ying-wei deficiency and ying-wei retention, can lead to “ying-wei disharmony”.
