This article introduces Professor Zhang Yuping’s experience in treating alopecia areata. It is considered that the pathogenesis is rooted in weakness of qi and blood, insufficiency of the liver and kidney, with pathogenic wind invasion, qi stagnation and blood stasis as its branch. The root of the disease is treated by replenishing qi and nourishing blood, and by nourishing the liver and supplementing the kidney, together with dispelling pathogenic wind and clearing away heat, and promoting blood circulation and dissipating the phlegm for the branch. Alopecia areata basic prescription, which is created for oral administration, is used in combination with those for external application. And one proven case is presented.
