This paper discusses the potential connections between epigastric throb and autonomic nerves. Based on the description of epigastric throb in Shanghan Zabing Lun(Treatise on Cold Pathogenic and Miscellaneous Diseases),modern pharmacological researches on Chinese medicine for epigastric throb and modernization studies for abdominal throb by physicians of Chinese medicine in Japan, this paper analyzes the possible potential connections between epigastric throb and autonomic nerves from its symptoms, pharmacological mechanisms and modern researches. Epigastric throb may be related to the imbalance of autonomic nervous system with relative hyperactivity of sympathetic nerve and decreased vagus nerve tension.
