Objective:To discuss the effects of Jianpi Huayu Decoction on the hemorheology and antioxidant activity in patients with senile macular degeneration(SMD). Methods86 SMD patients(114 eyes)were randomly divided into the observation group and control group,43 cases(57 eyes)in each group. The control group was orally treated with vitamin E tablets,vitamin C tablets and zinc sulfate tablets,and the observation group was treated with modified Jianpi Huayu Decoction,with a course of 3 months. The changes on the clinical symptom score,vision,hemorheology of ophthalmic artery,serum levels of malondialdehyde(MDA)and superoxide dismutase(SOD)were observed in both groups before and after treatment.  Results:①Compared with treatment before,the clinical symptom scores were decreased in both groups after treatment,and the vision and visual acuity were increased(P<0.05,P<0.01). After treatment,the clinical symptom score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group,and the vision and visual acuity in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05,P<0.01). ②Compared with treatment before,the peak systolic velocity(PSV)and end diastolic velocity(EDV)of ophthalmic artery were increased in both groups after treatment,and the resistance index(RI)was decreased(P<0.05,P<0.01). After treatment,the levels of PSV and EDV in the observation group were higher than those in the control group,and the RI of the observation group was lower than that of the control group(P<0.05,P<0.01). ③Compared with treatment before,the serum MDA level was decreased and the SOD level was increased in both groups after treatment(P<0.05,P<0.01). After treatment,the MDA level in the observation group was lower than that in the control group,and the SOD level in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05,P<0.01).  Conclusion:Jianpi Huayu Decoction shows good clinical efficacy in the treatment of senile macular degeneration,which can improve the microcirculation in eyes and enhance the antioxidant activity.
