This paper discusses Wang Lingtai’s clinical experience in the treatment of chronic liver diseases with “Gan Ba Wei Recipe”(eight Chinese medicines for liver diseases). It considered that the pathogenesis is deficiency of vital qi and pathogenic toxin invasion. The treatment should benefit qi and promote blood circulation for removing obstruction in collaterals,invigorate spleen for softening liver and tonify kidney,clear heat-toxicity and resolve hard mass,harmonize yin and yang. The commonly used drugs include Lu Dangshen(Radix Codonopsis),Sheng Dihuang(Radix Rehmanniae Recens),Chuan Shihu(Herba Dendrobii),stir-fried Biejia(Carapax Trionycis),complete Danggui(Radix Angelicae Sinensis),Yinyanghuo(Herba Epimedii),fried Baizhu(Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae)and Huzhang(Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati). One proven case is presented.
