This paper introduced the syndrome and treatment of gastric upset due to depression syndrome. From the aspect of disease characteristics,gastric upset fits the feature of indefinite complaints. From the aspect of etiology and pathogenesis,disharmony of liver and stomach,stagnated liver qi transforming into fire,anxiety impairing the heart and spleen as well as stagnation of phlegm-dampness caused by the seven emotions can all lead to gastric upset.From the aspect of treatment prescriptions,dispersing stagnated liver qi and regulating qi-flowing for relieving qi stagnation,invigorating spleen and nourishing heart for tranquillization,activating qi for resolving stagnation and removing phlegm,and even non-pharmaceutical approaches such as psychological counseling can be effective for the treatment. Gastric upset can be seen not only in the general simple spleen-stomach disease,but also in the depression syndrome. Gastric upset due to depression syndrome includes single depression syndrome and coexistence of diseases and depression syndrome. The former mainly refers to liver disease,heart disease and Class Ⅱ spleen disease(spleen-heart disease that belongs to depression syndrome),which should be treated based on relieving depression. The latter refers to liver-stomach disease,which should be treated by both regulating spleen and stomach and relieving depression.
