Objective:To observe the short term clinical efficacy of Shidao Tongjie Granule combined with chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced esophageal cancer. Methods80 patients with advanced esophageal cancer were randomly divided into the control group and treatment group, 40 cases in each group. The control group was treated with chemotherapy of paclitaxel and carboplatin,the treatment group was additionally treated with Shidao Tongjie Granule based on the treatment for the control group,with a course of 2 months. The short term efficacy was observed,and the changes of Chinese medical syndrome score,adverse reactions induced by chemotherapy and immune function indexes were compared.  Results:①The clinical total effective rate was 55.00% in the treatment group and 32.50% in the control group. The short term efficacy in the treatment group was significantly better than that in the control group(P,<,0.05). ②There was statistically significant difference on the Chinese medical syndrome score between the two groups after treatment,and the Chinese medical syndrome score of the treatment group was significantly lower than that of the control group(P,<,0.05). ③During the treatment,the adverse reactions induced by chemotherapy including aleucocytosis,thrombocytopenia,anemia and pernicious vomiting were significantly improved in the treatment group compared with the control group(P,<,0.05). ④There were statistically significant differences on the levels of CD3,+,CD4,+,CD8,+,CD4,+,/CD8,+and, NK cells between the two groups after treatment(P,<,0.05).  Conclusion:Shidao Tongjie Granule can significantly enhance the short term efficacy in the treatment of advanced esophageal cancer,which improve the clinical symptoms,alleviate the adverse reactions induced by chemotherapy and regulate the immune function of patients.
