Objective:To evaluate the bacteriostatic and anti-inflammatory effects of Compound Tougucao Solution and explore the mechanism of anti-inflammation,provide the experimental basis for its clinical application. MethodsThe bacteriostatic effects of Compound Tougucao Solution on dermatophytes and saccharomycetes were observed by bacteriostatic experiment in vitro. The mice model of dimethylbenzene-induced ear edema and rat model of carrageenan-induced paw swelling were established to observe the anti-inflammatory effects of Compound Tougucao Solution and Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate Injection with external application. 4 hours after the inflammation induced in rat paw,the levels of interleukin(IL)-1β and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α in the tissue were determined.  Results:The bacteriostatic experiment in vitro showed that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of Compound Tougucao Solution against dermatophytes and saccharomycetes were 12.5% and 25.0% of original solution,respectively. Compound Tougucao Solution could reduce the swelling degree of dimethylbenzene-induced ear edema in mice,and there was significant difference between the Compound Tougucao Solution group with high-dose and negative control group(P<0.01). Compound Tougucao Solution could obviously alleviate the swelling degree of carrageenan-induced paw swelling in rats,and there were significant differences between the Compound Tougucao Solution groups with different doses and negative control group(P<0.01). Compound Tougucao Solution could decrease the level of IL-1β in the tissue of rat swelling paw,and there were significant differences on IL-1β level between the Compound Tougucao Solution groups with different doses and negative control group(P<0.05,P<0.01).  Conclusion:Compound Tougucao Solution shows significant bacteriostatic and anti-inflammatory effects,and it plays a role in inhibiting the development of inflammation by decreasing the level of IL-1β in tissue.
