Objective:To study the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of Chinese herbal compound Manpen Decoction. MethodsThe dimethylbenzene-induced ear edema model in mice and the egg white-induced paw swelling model in rats were used to study the anti-inflammatory effects of Manpen Decoction,with China root greenbrier(Jin Gang Teng) and aspirin as positive control. The writhing test induced by acetic acid and hot plate test in mice were used to observe the analgesic effects of Manpen Decoction,with China root greenbrier and ibuprofen as positive control. In each model experiment,mice were divided into the control group,model group,positive control group and treatment groups with low-,mid- and high- dose of Manpen Decoction,10 in each group. Each group was treated with the corresponding drug and the control and model groups were treated with distilled water. The anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects of Manpen Decoction were observed.  Results:In the treatment groups with mid- and high- dose of Manpen Decoction,the swelling degree of ear edema in mice induced by dimethylbenzene was significantly suppressed(P<0.05). In the all treatment groups with low-,mid- and high-dose,the swelling degree of paw edema in rats induced by egg white was significantly reduced(P<0.05,P<0.01),and the group with high-dose was more effective. In addition, in the all treatment groups with different dose of Manpen Decoction,the pain reaction in writhing mice induced by acetic acid was significantly relieved(P<0.05,P<0.01),and the threshold of pain in hot plate test was increased(P<0.05,P<0.01).  Conclusion:Chinese herbal compound Manpen Decoction shows good anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect,as well as the good application prospects in the treatment of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.
