Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of wrist-ankle acupuncture in the treatment of acute lumbar sprain Methods:One hundred eighty subjects were randomized into three groups:group A in which 60 cases were by wrist-ankle acupuncture, group B in which 60 cases were treated conventional body acupuncture, and group C in which 60 cases were treated by both wrist-ankle acupuncture and body acupuncture, with a course of three days Results:The cure rate was 78.3% in group A, 81.6% in group B and 98.3% in group C; the clinical efficacy was better in group C than in group A(P<0.01) and group B(P<0.05). After treatment, the VAS score for lumbago were markedly reduced in the three groups(P<0.01), with greater difference of VAS score between before and after treatment in the group C than in group A(P<0.01) and group B(P<0.05) Conclusion:Wrist-ankle acupuncture can help conventional body acupuncture in the treatment of acute lumbar sprain.
