Chu Lixi's experience in treatment of lumbar disc herniation
This paper introduces Professor Chu Lixi's clinical experience in treating lumbar disc herniation.Professor Chu believes that the etiology can be attributed to external factors such as trauma, overstrain, wind-cold-dampness pathogens, internal factors including disharmony of visceral qi and blood, and spinal imbalance. The core pathogenesis is the obstruction of meridians and impaired circulation of qi and blood caused by stasis, dampness and deficiency under the effect of internal and external factors. In treating this disease, he advocates the concept of integrating Chinese and Western medicine, combining disease diagnosis with syndrome differentiation. By grasping the core pathogenesis, he adopts the treatment principles of "taking the zang-fu organs as the foundation" and "prioritizing qi and blood", flexibly using syndrome-specific herbs. Additionally, he employs manual therapy and functional exercises from the holistic view to correct spinal imbalance. The unique therapy of "one formula for three uses" has been innovatively proposed to enhance the clinical efficacy of the integrated internal and external treatment. And one proven case is presented.
