Shanghai Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine Submission Instructions

 

Shanghai Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med) is a sci-tech academic journal with global circulation sponsored by Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shanghai Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine. (ISSN: 1007-1334, CN: 31-1276R, CODEN: SZZHCD, paper size: 210 mm×297 mm, publication cycle: published monthly on the 10th of each month.) Here is a general procedure during the submission process:

1. Content

Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med mainly publishes original and high-quality clinical and scientific research articles in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, Integrative Medicine of traditional Chinese and western medicine. So far, Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med has designed multiple columns: “Innovative Chinese herbal medicine and classic Chinese formulas research“Guidelines and Consensus”, “COVID-19 column”, “Inheritance of Famous Doctors”, “Experts’ Commentary on TCM”, “Innovative Exploration in the Disciplines”, “Essence of Medical Principles and Theories”, “Elaboration on Classic Prescriptions”, “Clinical Trials”, “Experimental Research”, “Review” and so on.   

The content of the manuscript should be scientific, advanced, practical and logical, having clear arguments, clear structure, concise language, reliable data, accurate expression, coherent style, and standardized wording. Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med gives priority to articles that relate to hot topics, or articles that can lead a new trend of heated discussion in the field, or high-quality articles supported by national funds, or clinical research reports registered in global clinical trial registries recognized by WHO.

 

2. Formatting

2.1 General requirement Original manuscript should include (in order): title, author(s) (the profile of the first author and corresponding author should be footnoted on the first page of the manuscript), author affiliation, abstract and keywords in Chinese and English, introduction, body part (including figures and tables), conclusion, references, and other items. The name and code of fund projects should be footnoted on the first page of the manuscript. For manuscripts describing clinical trials or experimental research, please refer to the “Submission Template” on our journal’s official website. At presentplease submit manuscripts written in Chinese only.

2.2 Title The title should be concise, generally about 20 words, and not more than 26 words. The use of non-public abbreviations is not recommended.

2.3 Authorship and Affiliations The list of authors, and their corresponding affiliations should be placed below the title. The order of authors should be determined before submission of the manuscript. The full name of the author’s affiliation should be provided (including the specific section and department), and the province, city and postal code should be indicated. The profile of the first author and corresponding author should be footnoted on the first page of the manuscript, including the author’s name, gender, highest degree, professional title, and main research direction, etc. The ethical requirements for authorship are on the page of “Committee on Publication Ethics Guidelines” on our website.

2.4 Abstract The abstract should be written in third person and should not use subjects such as “this paper” and “the author”, etc. The abstract of research articles should follow a four-paragraph structure. For instance, the abstract of a manuscript based on a clinical trial is presented sequentially in four sections: Objective (to clarify the background, plan, and purpose of the study), Methods (must include materials or subjects, should describe the basic design methods of the project, such as grouping methods, intervention methods, observation methods, and statistical methods, etc.), Results (should list the primary outcomes, including the main data and statistical results), Conclusion (should briefly summarize the research results, explain its value or significance, and the statement should be objective, true and accurate).

2.5 Keywords  

All types of manuscripts must provide keywords, generally 3 to 8 terms. Each keyword is separated by a semicolon (“;”). The use of keywords should be standardized, accurate, and preferably with a high degree of attention in the research field. Author(s) can choose keywords by referring to the series of terms released by China National Committee for Terminology in Science and Technology (CNCTST).

2.6 Figures and Tables   

Figures and tables should provide sufficient self-explanatory information. Be sparing in the use of tables and ensure that the data presented in them do not duplicate results described elsewhere in the article. Each Figure or Table should be provided with a brief heading. A three-line table with no comment column is generally required. If there are figures that need to be explained (such as P-value), author can mark in the upper-right corner of the corresponding figures with symbols such as *, #, , , ▲, ▼, □, ■, etc. in the table. 2.7 Terminology The use of terminology in the full manuscript should be standardized, generally referring to the Pharmacopoeia of the People’s Republic of China and the standardized medical terminology published and recommended by the China National Committee for Terminology in Science and Technology (The “termonline’ website is recommended.).

2.8 Units of measurement The units of measurement implement the provisions of the Legal Unit of Measurement of the People’s Republic of China and the National Standard GB3100-1993 SI Units and Recommendations for the Use of Their Multiples and of Certain Other Units, and the manuscript requires the correct use and writing of the names and symbols of the units of measurement.

2.9 Statistical Terms and Symbols If the manuscript involves statistics, the specific statistical methods should be stated. For the relevant terms and symbols, refer to the national standard GB-T3358.1-1993. All statistical symbols should be written in italics, and the letter case should be clearly distinguished. For example, means ± standard deviation (SD) is represented by (±s), the standard deviation is represented by the lowercase s, the sample mean is represented by the lowercase n, and the probability is represented by the uppercase P.

2.10 References The manuscript should have no less than 10 references, and more than 20 references are preferred. Number the references (numbers in square brackets) in the list in the order which they appear in the text. The formatting specifications for the in-text annotations and the post-text reference list should refer to GB 7714-2015 (Information and Documentation—Rules for Bibliographic References and Citations to Information Resources) and the requirements of Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med. The author, title, source, year of publication, volume, issue and page number of each reference should be given in full. The specific requirements are listed on the page of “Reference Specification” on our journal’s official website.

 

3 Submission and Precautions

3.1 Submission method Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med will only accept electronic submissions of manuscripts. Please go to the homepage of Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med, click on “Author Submission”, register, log in and follow the system prompts to submit your manuscript and upload relevant required attachments.  

The name, contact address, telephone number and email address of the corresponding author(s) should be listed in the manuscript and the relevant information should be filled in when submitting the manuscript in the system. If the manuscript is a project sponsored by national, provincial or ministry level funds, please indicate the project name and code in the footer of the first page of the manuscript and upload a scanned copy of the first page of the project charter.

 

3.2 Manuscript Processing

The editorial office will issue a manuscript processing notice within 3 months after receiving the manuscript, as described in the “Manuscript Processing Flow” on our journal’s website. If there is no progress notification of the manuscript processing within 3 months after submission, author(s) may contact the journal editorial office at +86-021-51322545 or leave a message to the editor in the submission/review system. After the manuscript is reviewed by peer experts and the content is considered to be in need of revision, addition or deletion, the journal editorial office will send the manuscript and the revision comments back to the author(s) for revision, and the author(s) should upload the revised manuscript to the system within the deadline required by the editorial office.

 

3.3 Copyright Related 

All manuscripts must be submitted with the “Copyright Transfer Agreement” in the submission system. Author(s) should download the Copyright Transfer Agreement Template from our Journal’s website, print it, and upload a clear electronic photo of the agreement to the submission system with the signature of all authors and the stamp of their institutions on it. Only after the signed agreement is submitted will the editorial office proceed to the manuscript processing and start the review process.

The authors take sole responsibility for their manuscripts. In accordance with the Copyright Law of the People’s Republic of China, Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med reserves the right to make textual changes, deletions, and other processing to the manuscripts to be accepted. If you do not agree to any changes, please declare in advance. Any adjustments to the original content will be brought to the attention of the author(s) for consideration.

Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med has been included in the following electronic databases such as CNKI, Wanfang and VIP. Therefore, manuscripts accepted for publication in Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med will also be included in these databases. Authors who do not permit the inclusion of their papers in these databases should indicate their intention in the submissions.

Upon publication Shanghai J Tradit Chin Med will give payments to authors according to the relevant national standards for the articles (including abstracts, articles of all kinds and online publications), along with 2 sample copies.
