To systematically reveal the academic development, research hotspots, and knowledge evolution trends of the Xia School Surgery of Dermatology in Shanghai-style traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) over the past three decades using bibliometric and visual analysis techniques. The findings are expected to provide a reference for the systematic organization and academic promotion of TCM schools.
Methods
2
Relevant Chinese literature on the Xia School Surgery of Dermatology was retrieved from databases such as China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP), WanFang Data Knowledge Service Platform(WanFang Data), and Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), covering publications from January 1, 1915 to April 19, 2024. CiteSpace software was used to construct knowledge maps, and a visualized study of the development of the school was conducted from multiple dimensions, including publication volume, journals, authors, keywords, and keyword cluster analysis.
Results

Most of the clusters had high silhouette values (
>
0.8). Clusters were mainly concentrated from 2013 to 2017. The academic thoughts and clinical experience of renowned TCM experts, such as Tang Hanjun and Li Bin, formed distinctive clusters.
Conclusions
2
The Xia School Surgery of Dermatology has continuously expanded through the integration of inheritance and innovation, establishing a unique theoretical and diagnostic treatment system. The application of bibliometric and visual analysis techniques provides a new, systematic, and objective approach to researching TCM schools, which will contribute to the theoretical deepening and dissemination of TCM dermatology.
