Chen Xiaorong's experience in treating metabolic associated fatty liver disease with three‑phase toxin‑removing method based on theory of "turbidity and toxin causing diseases"
This paper introduces the clinical experience of Professor Chen Xiaorong in treating metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) with the three-phase toxin-removing method based on the theory of "turbidity and toxin causing diseases". The basic pathological factors of MAFLD include dampness, turbidity, phlegm, retained fluid, and blood stasis. In the early stage, liver qi is stagnant, and the spleen is deficient with dampness stagnation; the treatment should focus on transforming the toxins. In the middle stage, the spleen loses its ability to transport and transform, and the separation of clear and turbid substances is impaired; the treatment should emphasize intercepting the toxins. In the late stage, kidney qi is deficient, impairing qi transformation, and blood stasis obstructs the vessels and collaterals; the treatment should focus on expelling the toxins. A modified treatment regimen based on Ruangan Zhuyu Prescription is used according to the different pathological phases of the MAFLD, with satisfactory therapeutic results. A clinical case is included for reference.
