The "rhythm" and "regulation" in the female reproductive rhythm theory by National Traditional Chinese Medicine Master Xia Guicheng
This paper details the characteristics of five rhythms in a woman's life (circadian rhythm, weekly rhythm, monthly rhythm, annual rhythm and life cycle rhythm), and discusses Professor Xia Guicheng's clinical experiences in treating gynecological diseases based on the female reproductive rhythm theory. The circadian rhythm serves as the basic unit of life rhythms, where daytime activity invigorates yang qi and nighttime rest nourishes yin blood, adhering to fundamental health preservation principles. The number seven is considered the Shaoyan number in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), with a typical menstrual period lasting around seven days. When yin is sufficiently abundant, "Jinsi Dai" (brocade-like vaginal discharge) can last up to seven days, which further aids in conception. Menstrual cycles align with lunar rhythms and tide, and Professor Xia's classical four-phase menstrual cycle theory has been expanded to a seven-phase model to more accurately reflect the changes in yin and yang, thereby providing better clinical guidance. A proven case is included for illustration.
