Application of traditional Chinese medicine exercise therapy in the rehabilitation of residual symptoms of schizophrenia
Long-term residual negative symptoms and cognitive impairment are common in schizophrenia, which severely affect the quality of life and social functioning of patients. Therefore, intervention for residual symptoms has become an important component of schizophrenia rehabilitation. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) exercise therapy (Gongfa) is a moderately intense aerobic mind-body exercise that emphasizes the “form-spirit integration” and has been progressively applied in clinical practice as an adjunct to schizophrenia rehabilitation. In this paper, we review the status quo of the application of TCM exercise therapy in the rehabilitation of schizophrenia residual symptoms, as well as discuss and analyze TCM exercise therapy based on TCM theories, for the purpose of providing a theoretical basis for the application of TCM exercise therapy in the rehabilitation of schizophrenia residual symptoms.
