Cai Gan’s application of “three concepts” theory in treatment of irritable bowel syndrome
Professor Cai Gan’s experience in treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) based on the “three concepts” theory is introduced. It is considered that IBS is caused by a combination of multiple factors and gastrointestinal malfunction. Therefore, Pro. Cai emphasizes the theory of “three concepts” (i.e., holistic concept, dynamic concept, and balanced concept) as the basis for treatment, regulating zang-organs for fu-organs related disorders, changing treatment methods with syndromes, adjusting formulas flexibly and prescribing herbal medicines mild in nature. Remarkable therapeutic effects have been achieved with two proven cases attached.
