Ding Yuanqing using modified Sishen Powder to treat medication⁃overuse headache: a medical case
The clinical experience of Professor Ding Yuanqing in the treatment of medication-overuse headache is introduced by analyzing a proven medical case. It is considered that the syndrome is caused by long-term headache, improper use of medication. In this article, the pathogenesis blood deficiency and collaterals obstruction, which is closely related to Jueyin liver and pericardium, is proposed firstly. The main pathogenesis is deficiency of yin and blood and the secondary one is endogenous wind disturbing collaterals and turbid phlegm causing blood stasis. Long-term disease will enter the collaterals, resulting in disharmony of body and spirit. In clinic, based on the theory of syndrome differentiation of the six meridians for headache, the syndrome can be treated by the methods of supplementing deficiency and purging excess-evil, simultaneously treating body and mind. Therefore, a good result can be received in treating the syndrome by using the modified prescription according to the change of syndrome as the Sishen Powder has the functions of expelling wind and dredging collaterals, regulating qi and blood, and dispersing obstruction to stop pain. One case was appended to illustrated the therapy.
