Changes in form and system (Ⅲ): an interpretation on new and old editions of TCM National Standards of therapeutic methods part
Objective,2,To interpret the differences in the compilation methods and content of the therapeutic methods part between the old and new editions of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) National Standards for the purpose of promoting the application of the new editions of TCM National Standards.,Method,2,Relational mappings of terms of TCM therapeutic methods and the correspondence tables between terms of therapeutic methods and terms of syndromes in the new and old TCM National Standards were compiled for the statistical analysis and text comparison in respect of the naming standard, the correspondence between terms of therapeutic methods and terms of syndromes, compilation style, classification system, inclusion scope, and definition format.,Results,2,In respect of naming standard, the therapeutic methods part of the new editions of TCM National Standards stopped using brackets in terms once used in the old editions. In respect of the correspondence between terms of syndromes and terms of therapeutic methods, the therapeutic methods part of the new editions of TCM National Standards amended and improved terms of syndromes involved in the definition of terms of therapeutic methods, so that the terms of diseases and syndromes matched better with the terms of therapeutic methods. In respect of compilation style, English translation and optional lexical items were added to the therapeutic methods part of the new editions. In respect of inclusion scope, 94 terms were added to the therapeutic methods part of the new editions of TCM National Standards, such as "therapy for preventive treatment of disease" , "emergent purgation to preserve yin-fluid" and "small needle knife therapy" , etc. In respect of classification system, the therapeutic methods part of the new editions of TCM National Standards solved the mix-and-match problem of terms of therapeutic principles, therapeutic methods and therapies in the old editions, and classified them into three separate categories: therapeutic principles, therapeutic methods and therapies. In respect of definition norm, the therapeutic methods part of the new editions of TCM National Standards formulated a unified and standardized definition format for each term.,Conclusion,2,Compared with the old editions, the therapeutic methods part of the new editions of TCM National Standards can better satisfy the contemporary demands for the standardization and internationalization of TCM medical informatics in China in respect of naming standard, correspondence between terms of syndromes and terms of therapeutic methods, compilation style, classification system, inclusion scope, and definition format.
