Syndrome differentiation and treatment of chronic tendon and bone diseases based on tendon-bone disharmony theory
With the development of the times, the disease spectrum of orthopedics and traumatology of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) begins to change, and the incidence of chronic tendon and bone diseases increases rapidly. As the traditional concepts of tendons and bones in traditional Chinese medicine cannot fully satisfy the needs of clinical application, Professor Lin Dingkun combines the TCM concept of tendon-bone disharmony with modern anatomical knowledge to differentiate the involved tissues into "tendons, joints, marrow and bones" . The chronic tendon and bone diseases are therefore classified into four syndromes, i.e., tendon injury, joint dislocation, marrow injury and bone disease. In terms of treatment, Professor Lin follows the treatment principles of tendon regulation, joint adjustment, marrow protection and bone treatment, and specifically adopts internal and external treatment methods(manipulation, surgery and TCM oral administration, etc.). The application of tendon-bone disharmony theory based syndrome differentiation and classification to the diagnosis and treatment of chronic tendon and bone diseases can facilitate the clarification of its pathological mechanism, improve the therapeutic effect, and provide theoretical basis for modern applied research and clinical practice of TCM orthopedics and traumatology.
