Men Jiuzhang’s experience in treating liver cirrhosis with Xiongshao decoction
This paper introduces Professor Men Jiuzhang’s experience in the treatment of liver cirrhosis with Xiongshao decoction. It is considered that liver cirrhosis’s pathogenesis is failure of the liver in conveying and dispersing, failure of the spleen in transformation and failure of the kidney in qi transformation. Its pathological products include qi stagnation, blood stasis and water dampness. Long-term illness involve the kidney, resulting in the decline of fire in Mingmen (vital gate), finally the syndrome of deficiency of spleen and kidney will occur. The feature of the syndrome is deficiency in the root and excess in the branch. The treatment principle is warming yang and strengthening the spleen and the characteristic prescription of Xiongshao decoction is established. Professor Men Jiuzhang also pays attention to protecting stomach qi and is good at using the combined formulas. And two proven cases are presented.
