Considerations on the Expert Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in Chinese Medicine (2017)
By reviewing the relevant literature, especially the consensus opinions on the diagnosis and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in Chinese medicine in recent years, and combining with my experience in clinical practice, this paper discusses the Expert Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in Traditional Chinese Medicine (2017) from six aspects, i.e. disease name, pathogenesis, diagnosis, pattern identification, treatment goal, and treatment process. It is suggested that Chinese medicine should also use “gastroesophageal reflux disease” as a unified disease name. It is particularly important to correctly understand the mechanism of acid reflux. It is also suggested that the role of experimental treatment of traditional Chinese medicine and acupoint detection in the diagnosis of GERD should be brought into play. In treatment, it is of the first thing to distinguish whether there are typical reflux symptoms, and then to combine with other symptoms and signs of the tongue and pulse to identify patterns. Treating the reflux should be used as the essential strategy and root treatment as the primary therapeutic principle. At the same time, the flow chart of diagnosis and treatment of GERD in Chinese medicine was redefined to provide help and reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
