This article summarizes the clinical experience of Professor Cheng Yan in the treatment of herpetic pharyngitis. Professor Cheng holds that the clinical manifestations are mainly caused by exogenous wind and heat,toxin in the lung and stomach and consumption of yin due to residual heat. She treats the disease by the methods of dispelling wind and eliminating pathogenic factors,clearing away heat and detoxifying,invigorating qi and nourishing yin, and pays attention to the method of giving the pathogenic factors a way out. In treating the disease, She is very careful about prescribing the bitter and cold herbs and good at applying the herb of Baimaogen (Rhizome Imeratae), modifying the prescription in accordance with the symptom and solar terms of four seasons. And one proven case is presented.
