Huang Guihua’s discussion on treatment of glucocorticoid adverse reactions from perspective of traditional Chinese medicine
This paper introduces Professor Huang Guihua’s clinical experience in treating glucocorticoid adverse reactions from the point of view of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The characteristics of glucocorticoid are analyzed from TCM, and the pathogenesis of adverse reactions is expounded. It is considered that glucocorticoids have the nature of yang-heat, easy to consume kidney essence, and easy to make phlegm, dampness and stagnant heat, imbalance of water and fire, dysfunction of the spleen. For those with phlegm accumulating with stagnation, the treatment should be focused on dispelling phlegm and blood stasis; for those with imbalance of water and fire, attention should be paid to regulating yin and yang in the kidney; for those with the dysfunction of the spleen and stomach, it is appropriate to take care of the middle energizer(zhongjiao); for those with the deficiency of kidney essence, it should be based on tonifying the kidney.
