Pattern analysis on prescriptions and medicines for oral administration and enema in treatment of ulcerative colitis with traditional Chinese medicine based on data mining
Objective:To summarize and analyze the patterns of prescriptions and medicines for oral administration and enema in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) by data mining and literature research. MethodsClinical research literatures on the treatment of UC with Chinese medicine published in the last 10 years were retrieved in databases including CNKI, Wanfang Data and VIP. A literature research database was established, a statistical analysis was performed on the effect category and frequency of the herbs and prescriptions discussed in the literatures, and data mining analysis of association rules and network diagram was carried out on core prescriptions and herbs. Results:①A total of 339 relevant articles were included:50 prescriptions were for oral administration, the most commonly used was Wumei Pill, and the association rules also showed a strong association of “Wumei-Fuzi-Huanglian”; 167 Chinese herbs were used commonly, 31.11% of them were tonifying herbs and 20.15% were heat-clearing herbs; 26 Chinese herbs were used with a frequency over 10%, such as Gancao, Huanglian, Baizhu, Baishao, Dangshen, Danggui, Muxiang, Fuling, Huangqin, Huangqi, Baitouweng, Chenpi, Wumei, etc., and the association rules showed a strong association of herbs invigorating the spleen and tonifying qi. ②16 prescriptions were used for enema and the most commonly used was Baitouweng Decoction, and the association rules also showed a strong association of “Baitouweng-Qinpi-Huangbai-Huanglian”; 123 Chinese herbs were used commonly, 39.17% of them were heat-clearing herbs, 17.72% were hemostatic herbs, and 17 Chinese herbs were used with a frequency over 10%, such as Huanglian, Baiji, Huangbai, Diyu, Baitouweng, Huangqin, Kushen, Baijiangcao, etc. The network diagram showed a strong association of “Baitouweng-Huanglian-Huangbai-Baiji-Diyu”. 5 Chinese patent medicines were used, and Xilei Powder was the most commonly used. ③Huanglian had a strong association with the other drugs in association rules and network diagram of both oral administration and enema. Conclusion:Oral administration of Chinese medicines to treat UC is mainly focused on reinforcement of healthy qi by invigorating spleen and replenishing qi, and elimination of pathogenic factors by clearing heat and drying dampness, with the most commonly used prescription being Wumei Pill; in treatment by enema, it is mainly focused on clearing heat, removing toxins, drying dampness, stanching bleeding, resolving putridity and promoting granulation, with the most commonly used prescriptions being Baitouweng Decoction and Xilei Powder. Overall, the most commonly used herb is Huanglian both for oral administration and enema.
