Effects of Erbai Decoction combined with amlodipine besylate on morning blood pressure surge in patients with hypertension
Objective:To observe the effects of Erbai Decoction combined with amlodipine besylate on morning blood pressure surge in patients with hypertension. Methods72 patients with hypertension were randomly assigned into the treatment group and the control group, 36 patients in each group. Oral amlodipine besylate was given to patients in both groups and patients in the treatment group received Erbai Decoction in addition. The duration of treatment was 28 days in both groups. The 24h mean systolic blood pressure (SBP), 24h mean diastolic blood pressure (DBP), 24h control rate of blood pressure, control rate of morning blood pressure surge and changes in scores on the modified SPIEGEL sleep scale were observed. Results:①After treatment, 24h mean SBP and DBP decreased significantly in the groups (P<0.05), but with no statistically significant difference between the groups (P>0.05). ②There were statistically significant differences in values of morning blood pressure surge and scores on the SPIEGEL sleep scale in the groups before and after treatment (P<0.05); and there were statistically significant differences in values of morning blood pressure surge and scores on the SPIEGEL sleep scale (P<0.05) between the groups after treatment (P<0.05). ③The 24h control rate of blood pressure and control rate of morning blood pressure surge were 88.9% and 91.7% respectively in the treatment group, and were 67.7% and 44.4% respectively in the control group, with the treatment group significantly superior to the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion:The observation results indicate that Erbai Decoction combined with amlodipine besylate has definite efficacy in the treatment of hypertension, as the 24h ambulatory blood pressure and morning blood pressure surge are well controlled, and the quality of sleep is improved remarkably.
