Deng Tietao’s experience in treatment of internal diseases in Lingnan
This paper introduces the clinical experience of Prof. Deng Tietao,a master of Chinese medicine,in the treatment of internal diseases in Lingnan (south of the Five Ridges). Prof. Deng specializes in using paste prescription and attaches importance to the clinical application of the theory of ‘spleen regulating blood’ in order to treat the root of blood syndrome in Lingnan. It is pointed out that ‘damp-heat of three Jiao in qi aspect’ is the common pathogenesis of febrile disease in Lingnan. He is adept in differentiating exogenous and internal diseases, and treating the diseases with characteristic Lingnan herbs such as Huangqi (Radix Astragali),Muhudie(Semen Oroxyli),Xiqiɑncɑo(Herba Siegesbeckiae) and so on. Professor Deng pays attention to the theory of the relation of heart and spleen. He holds that the pathogenesis of palpitation in Lingnan is the deficiency of qi and yin, turbid phlegm blocking collaterals and Deng’s Wendan Decoction is used for the treatment. One proven case is presented.
