This paper investigated the therapy and syndromes of consumptive disease due to depression syndrome. Consumptive disease is a general term for chronic deficiency diseases due to consumption of yin,yang,qi and blood in viscera. A part of consumptive disease,which is caused by emotional factors,always manifests as ordinary deficiency syndrome, but actually belongs to the deformation of depression syndrome. The reasons include the facts that five excessive minds influence the five viscera especially the heart,seven emotions such as anger,sadness,over-thinking and fear lead to psychological diseases,changes in life circumstances cause the consumption of ying qi and loss of essence,and the emotional upset of the girls and boys at puberty,the divorced and nuns can arouse consumptive disease. Consumptive disease due to depression syndrome contains two forms as dominant depression syndrome and recessive depression syndrome. As for the treatments,besides of nourishing therapy,the principles of relieving depression,tranquilizing the mind and regulating qi should also be taken seriously. In addition to medication,regulation of mind and spirit is also essential to avoid consumptive diseases. Combination of these two aspects is very important for the prevention and treatment of consumptive disease due to depression syndrome.
