Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of contralateral acupuncture at Jiantong point in the treatment of shoulder periarthritis. MethodsEighty subjects were randomly divided into two groups:the treatment group in which 40 cases were treated with acupuncture at the contralateral Jiantong point, and the control group in which 40 cases were treated with conventional electroacupuncture,with a course of 2 weeks. The clinical efficacy and the scores of shoulder pain and motion were observed and compared before and after treatment.  Results:The total effective rate was 95.0% in the treatment group and 75.0% in the control group；the clinical efficacy of the treatment group was better than that of the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the scores of shoulder pain and motion in both groups were obviously increased compared with treatment before(P<0.01), and the scores in the treatment group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.01).  Conclusion:Acupuncture at contralateral Jiantong point can reduce shoulder pain and improve shoulder motion in the treatment of shoulder periarthritis.
