Ganmai Dazao Decoction,from the articles related to Gynecological diseases in the Golden Chamber, was commonly used in the treatment of hysteria of woman syndrome. But ancient physicians had controversial over the type of “wheat”(whole wheat, wheat kernel or floating wheat) in this prescription. This article tried to find some information from the literature,clinical research data and the background on the development of agricultural science and technology in Han dynasty and infer the type of wheat. The type of wheat mentioned in the Golden Chamber should be concluded as the whole wheat. Floating wheat can be used for emergency, but wheat kernel can not be used. Clinical medication should be selected depending on the situation.
