Clinical observation of electroacupuncture with skin traction for treatment of knee osteoarthritis
Objective:To assess the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture in combination with skin traction in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. MethodsSixty subjects were randomly assigned into treatment group and control group, with 30 cases in each group; the treatment group was given electroacupuncture and skin traction, and the control group was given only electroacupuncture, with a course of four weeks. Lower-extremity alignment was evaluated using coronal tibiofemoral angle(CTA), and the HSS scores of both knees and clinical efficacy were evaluated. Results:After treatment, the coronal tibiofemoral angle and hospital for special surgery scores were increased in both groups(P<0.05), with more significant increase in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05). The total effective rate was 90.00% in the treatment group and 76.67% in the control group, with better efficacy in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion: Electroacupuncture with skin traction can relieve knee pain and motor dysfunction, improve knee varus deformity and restore knee mechanics balance in the treatment knee osteoarthritis.
