This paper presents the etiology, pathogenesis, manifestations and treatment of dyspnea and cough due to depression syndrome. It indicates that dyspnea and cough can be one of the manifestations of depression syndrome. Terror, anxiety, depression, angry and sorrow can all lead to dyspnea and cough. Dyspnea and cough due to depression syndrome has direct clinical evidences(emotional symptoms),as well as indirect clinical evidences such as neurotic personality and multiple systemic symptoms. In nature, it is a kind of masked depression syndrome covered by dyspnea and cough. The dyspnea and cough due to depression syndrome have been proved to be objectively existed by modern psychology, pathophysiology, epidemiology and clinical researches. In dealing with intractable dyspnea and cough, we need to pay attention to the possibility of dyspnea and cough due to depression syndrome and then try to treat it from depression.
