Clinical observation on the efficacy of “Fuzheng Huashi Tonglin Decoction” in elderly patients with recurrent urinary tract infection
Objective:This paper is to determine the treatment efficacy of “Fuzheng Huashi Tonglin Decoction” (FZHSTL) on the recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI) in elderly women Methods:70 elderly women with recurrent UTI were randomized into treatment group and control group, 35 in each group. Subjects in both groups received standard antibiotic therapy. In addition, subjects in the control group received Bilinqing capsule while subjects in the treatment group received FZHSTL. The duration of the therapy was 6 months with a 3-month follow-up in both groups. The clinical efficacy, scores of TCM syndrome, and recurrence of UTI were assessed Results:① 4 subjects dropped off in the treatment group and 6 in the control group. 60 subjects had completed the study. ②The overall effective rate was 90.32% in the treatment group and 68.97% in the control. A significant difference was observed between two groups (P<0.05). ③ Compared before and after the treatment ,the difference of clinical symptoms of TCM in both groups were statistically significant (P<0.01); In addition, the changes of scores of TCM syndrome before and after treatment were different between the two groups (P<0.01). ④ During the follow-up, the rate of UTI recurrence was significantly lower in the treatment group than the control groups (P<0.05) Conclusion:FZHSTL combined with antibiotic therapy provides better clinical efficacy and reduces the incidence of recurrent UTI in elderly women.
