Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of auricular acupuncture and low frequency electric acupuncture in preventing urine retention following postoperative mixed hemorrhoids  Methods: Two hundred and forty subjects underwent haemorrhoidectomy were randomized into experimental group, control group and blank group, and respectively treated with auricular acupuncture and electric acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, and does not take any intervention. The occurrence rate of urine retention, first time urination after operation, urination after operation and related symptoms were observed of the three groups  Results: ① The occurrence rate of urine retention was 2.5% in the experimental group, was lower than that of the blank group (26.25%), with significant difference between them (P<0.01). ② The first time urination after operation was shorter than that of the blank group and control group (P<0.05). ③ Scores of urination and scores of symptoms in lower abdomen of the experimental group were lower than those of the control group and blank group significantly (P<0.05). ④ VAS of 8h after surgery in the experimental group was lower than that of the blank group, with significant difference between them (P<0.05)  Conclusion: Combined auricular acupuncture and low frequency electric acupuncture can reduce the occurrence rate of urine retention in postoperative mixed hemorrhoids, improve the clinical symptoms and relieve pain.
