This paper reviews the research progress on pharmacological effects and mechanism of Herba Pogostemonis. As a clinical commonly used aromatic with effects of resolving dampness,it mainly includes volatile components such as patchouli alcohol and pogostone and non-volatile components such as flavonoids. It shows various pharmacological effects such as protecting the gastrointestinal tract,anti-pathogenic microorganism,anti-inflammatory,analgesic activity,relieving fever,antiemetic action,arresting cough,dissipating phlegm,relaxing bowels,anti-oxidation,anti-tumor,regulation of immune system and so on.
